Island of Endless Opportunities!

Hello,
Well these last few days have been such a blast. Yesterday we had a afternoon of free time following our morning lectures. We are now done learning about the Character and Nature of God. We learned a lot in this past week. Our teacher was very excellent. I really learned about how faith is so important if we are to recieve God's promises or gifts. I also got a bigger understanding on His forgiveness and grace. Grace was one of the main focuses this week as well as faith. I always knew God was big and in control but this past week really showed me that we cannot even imagine how great our God is. Well during that free time yesterday I met with my one-on-one leader Rhoda. She is engaged to our group leader Stephen who is in charge of the Beach 2 Bush DTS (discipleship training school). After that I was invited out for cheesecake and a movie so most of our B2B school went on the train to go. While we were on the train there were 2 scottish drunk men who came on. They were swearing and trying to get attention which was working quite well for them. But then Shane from England decided to go sit beside one of them because they were asking about YWAM once they found out that we were all gathered there for a reason from all over the world. The guys name was Scott and he was asking about YWAM so Shane went to him to help. Well they had a very deep conversation about God and about Shane's beliefs and why he chose to believe in God. The man Scott, told us that his mother died of cancer when he was 8 and he had stopped going to church. It was such a unique opportunity to talk to him and get to know him in the evening on a train of all places. Unfortunately Scott's stop came before Shane could really talk more in depth but it was a awesome experience. We all then walked to the theatre to realize we were late and that the only other show was at 9:40 which was pretty late. So we went to the 3 Monkeys which is a coffee shop that looked so sweet. It had bamboo in it and it looked very jungle stylish and very unique with the world's best cake and pinapple juice! Then we all headed back but on the way a guy asked Brent (another student) for some food. Apparently he had a girlfriend or wife in the alley sleeping and was in need of food. Brent decided that he was gonna buy him some food and I didn't want to leave him behind. So me, brent, Shane, Luke, Ahley, Aria, and Hanna stayed with him. While Brent went looking for a place where he could buy food me and Shane went to the man to talk. It was interesting because this guy looked totally beaten. He told us he had Cystic Fibrosis and only had until he was 46. He used to be a boxer but his lungs have gotten so bad he had to quit. He was only 36 but in talking to us he told us about God. We hadn't even mentioned YWAM or God but he started talking to us about God. Shane asked him "if you had anything you wanted to do in life what would it be?" Well the others had joined Shane and I and he said "tell you what, what do you guys want to be or what would you have if you could have anything?" Well Luke said he would want to be in a band, I said a teacher, Hanna said a midwife, Shane said a missionary and we all went around saying what we would want to do. Well when it was his turn (His was called "Rivers" which was his boxing name) he said "I want to see out of the eyes of the blind man, the crippled, the mute, the amputees, the lost..." and he went through a list of other descriptions of people who are not as fortunate as we were. It was so humbling to hear him talk. It was weird how he started telling us about God and in turn taught us something. It was hard to really listen because he had a pregnant girlfriend or something like that sleeping in the back alley. Apparently his wife had left him for another man. But it was humbling that he said he wanted to see out of the people who are less fortunate's eyes. After this Brent and the rest of us prayed for him in the middle of a sidewalk outside of a night club. Then the man Rivers prayed for us and we came home. Then we all were exhausted and so we went to sleep but it was quite a night. The opportunities to talk and learn things from God were so evident yesterday. It was amazing! It was SHane's first time going to someone and telling them about Jesus. Shane is wanting to become a missionary and he is here trying to deciefer whether thats God's plan for his life. So it was awesome for him to get that opportunity and I was blessed to be there witnessing that same opportunity. Tonight we had the same free time and then a group of us girls and guys went into the city for the night. We went on a boat ride and walked around the town. Tomorrow is more free time so after our work duties we are planning on going to the beach in the city tomorrow. Next weekend we will be here again but after that our Australian outreach will begin and we will be on the road. These are our first 2 weekends to have to ourselves before we are actually working and setting up different ministries. So thats my update lately, its been such a great experience already and I can't wait to see what the next few months have in store.
