Surfs Up!
Well as I mentioned last post we headed off to Tofino this past week for a 3 day surfing trip. It was awesome, on Tuesday we left and as we were driving to our campsite we were able to vote early for our constituency which was exciting as it was my first time voting. Then we continued on and stopped at a beach near Tofino and were able to see amazing waves. It was such a beautiful moment for our whole school to stand there on the rocks and watch these waves come crashing in. After we got to camp we set everything up and then we had dinner and a time of sharing funny stories. The next couple of days we went surfing and more bonding time. We got back on Friday and had our first Camp Ministry course by our leader Jim Badke. We had lots of group discussion times and learned about God's heart for camp and how camp is God's idea. The Camp Ministry course is different than the other ones as it's scattered throughout the semester. So we will have a class randomly every so often. After our class our Lake Cowichan Baptist Church ministry team headed off for youth group. This was our 2nd time going to youth and I really enjoyed it. I am really looking forward to really getting to know them as right now we know them on what we've seen or heard from and of them. We played a few games with them and then had a small devotion. One thing that I've really realized going there is a incapability of me to really let loose and have fun with them. I don't know if it's just the age they have as all of them seem quite a bit younger than youth but I just feel like I haven't been able to really get into the games and have fun. This is so weird for me too as I love hanging out with teens and playing games but for some odd reason I've been able to do the games but just not with the level of enthusiasm I usually have. So if you could pray that I would feel more comfortable there and be able to really engage with the youth when I'm there. On Saturday I went to a Birthday Party which was so much fun, I absolutely loved it. Then our base leader Jim Badke invited us over for a movie and apple pie night. On Sunday our ministry team went to church and it was a super encouraging time for me. The same girl who has been coming came again and she's been going to youth now too which is awesome. Anyways she took me aside and we had a great heart to heart. At the end of our conversation I was able to pray with her. She is not from a Christian home and this is all foreign to her so it was really cool to have that talk and see her searching for Christ yet not really understanding that yet. So that was basically my week and weekend. It was quite laid back this week minus all the homework, but we had no retreats going on so the camp was quite empty unlike the rest of the weeks because of Thanksgiving. Tonight our whole camp had a amazing Thankgiving meal and most of the students were back from home or their different travels. It was awesome a perfect way to end our long weekend. I sure hope you all had a great Thanksgiving as I did! This next week we will be having another Camp Ministry course class and then lots of school work and a girl/guys night so we'll see what's going on there. This weekend we are also having a women's retreat which I will be working at so it should be a good time to help out with. Well that's about it for my past week. Hope you had a great thanksgiving, talk to you later!
