Hello Friends and Family,
Well this past week was a very crazy one. We started off on Monday taking our Hermeneutics class by professor Merrill Dyck. It was so interesting to take even though the topic is quite a lengthy and deep one. For those who do not know what that long word means, it basically means the study of interpreting the Bible. Before the class started we had to read the book "How to Read the Bible for All it's Worth"which was quite interesting. I learned so much about how the Bible was written, who the author's were, and also what the intent was in reading the book. There was so much more that I learned about how it was written and why, that now when I read it, it seems like its a whole different book. Throughout the week, we went over the different types of writing like the writings of wisdom, prophecies, the Law, Revelation, and poems/songs. Merrill went into depth on how to interpret the different books and the importance of reading the context of the verses. During the week were we placed in groups of people who had read the same book of the Bible for 7 days (one of our pre-course assignments). So I was in a group that did 1 John. We ended the week with doing our group project which was a skit. By doing the skit we were supposed to present 1 John in a interesting way that would bring light to it. It really gave me more understanding doing the play as when I was reading it the week before class started I was just reading it over in order to get the homework done. The other presentations were also very good and very helpful. It was cool to see how the different books in the BIble have these underlying themes and how you can present it in many ways. As for last weekend, it was spent mainly indoors working on our final Spiritual Formation papers. Thanks be to God for that whole process too! On Saturday I started working on some of the assignments, in particular my Proverbs "Heart" paper (I haven't been very wise on using my time I'll admit it), and I ended at 5a.m. on Sunday. Well while doing this paper my computer started to go all wonky and it had all my four assignments on it so I decided to save it as it basically signaled that it crashed but Daniel prayed for it and I was able to get it going again. Well on Sunday my computer did crash and the hardrive wasn't recognizable, but thankfully because I was able to recover it the day before I was able to save almost all my info except the things I changed on Sunday. I was also able to redo all my changes from earilier on Sunday and make it ontime for the due date which I am so thankful for. Unfortunately my computer it still crashed and it looks like I just lost all my pictures, notes, addresses, etc. But I am so thankful that I was able to save those papers. As far as our ministry went this past week, we had our Youth Halloween Party on Friday which was super awesome. The two girls and the couple who runs youth had a booth with different boxes full of different kinds of foods and so we had a game where you roll the die and then depending on your number, you have to eat the corresponding food. We also had a relay then a small devotional afterwards. What was really exciting about youth was that the same girl who I've been writing to you about came again. It was a hard decision as she had this internal dilemna on whether she should stay at home and go out to party, or come to youth. It has been so exciting yet again to see how God has been drawing her closer and closer to himself. She also attended church on Sunday which was also very cool. This next week we are going to be ministering to the homeless on MOnday (which I did today but will talk about next week to save time), then on Tuesday my group will be going caving. Then later on in the week we have a Camp Ministry course and a Jr. High Retreat on the weekend which I do believe I will be working at (hopefully counselling for). So if you could pray for our teams that will be working with the homeless that would be great as the other half of our group will be doing that tomorrow, and if you could pray for this weekend for the kids that are going to be coming. Some other news is that our church is looking for a full time pastor and this past week we had a candidate come so if you could pray that God's will will be done in that decision making that would be great. Finally we have had the opportunity to pray and look over our year end outreach. The choices were Cambodia, India, New York, and Vancouver/Cowichan Lake area here on the island. We handed in our choices last week but the leaders are still praying over the locations and the different people going to the locations so we do not know for sure where we will be going yet. So if you could pray for our leaders in Kaleo, that God would speak and guide them in making up the different ministry teams that would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for all your prayer support! Take Care
