Life In Brisbane

Hello,
Well it's been awhile since my last update so I decided I would fill you in on everything thats happened this week. Well last weekend was our weekend off so on Saturday me and Kristina had to stay on base because we had lunch duties so after that we just played catch. Later on that night we had a open house night where we were all assigned different staff houses to go to for dinner. I was assigned to Marc, & Lisa, and Justin & Nicole's house. They are 2 married couples and Marc and Lisa have 3 girls. So we went over there and for our huge dinner we were served steak, african sausage and Kangeroo. It was so amazing. Kangeroo comes in a package that is sold in local superstores. Kangeroo's here and fairly common, almost like deer in Alberta and Saskatchewan. It is a very lean and dark meat with tons of flavour. It was a great time, Justin is a very humorous guy who grew up in Costa Rica. I haven't seen anyone so outgoing and unbelievably hilarious. After dinner we all parted ways and eventually went to bed. Then on Sunday me and Kristina decided to make up for our lost day at the beach and go to South Bank. South Bank is a train ticket away from where we are in Mitchelton. It is also on the other side of the river from Brisbane city. In South Bank they have a man-made beach (more like a beach with a pool in it) that has a view of the gorgeous city. So me and kristina took Corina and Susan with us. We spent most of the day there tanning (for Susan and I it was burning) however the burn only lasted one day which was awesome. Afterwards we got ice cream and saw this cool street performer who was performing in one of the entrances to the beach. He was pretty good at his tricks but unfortunately his humour was lacking innocence so we went back home. We missed our train so we missed church on the way back so we all got together and had a amazing time of worship. It has been one of my highlights, Hana (from Germany) got out her guitar and we all sang and shared scripture together. Then on Monday we started our lectures on Intercession and Hearing the Voice of God. Our teacher's name is Heather who is a very unique teacher. She has told us a lot of her miraculous stories and it has been so cool to hear the many ways she and others have seen God's power put to action. This week we were given our outreach options: 2 groups are going to Malaysia to 2 different cities, 1 team is going to Vanuatu, and another is staying in Australia. So we were given this coming weekend to pray about it and we will be making our decision on Monday. So now we have been given the time to really put what Heather has taught us into practice, I'll tell you its stressful. haha. The teams going to Malaysia are going to be working out of a base from the main city. So one team will be working with the church there while the other will be going to the other side of Malaysia to start setting up a base. They have been wanting another base near the other side but they do not have the people to do it so they will be helping out there. The group in Vanuatu is going to be working with the villages/people there. Its more of a discipleship ministry as Vanuatu is a "christian nation". However there is a lot of witchcraft that goes on there and a lot of worshipping idols even though its a "christian" place. Then the team that stays in Australia can only have 4 students. Their mission is to go around Australia backpacking and staying in hostils. They are going to be more social evangelism and developing relationships with the other backpackers in Australia. They have found a lot of needy tourists like the ones in my last blog from Scotland. So this team will be travelling around and developing relationships in order to be able to share about Jesus to them. So next week we should have a idea on where we are all going for outreach. The rest of my week has been the same old here at the base. Tomorrow is Friday, March 2nd and we are going on another camping trip. We are headed to Byron Bay where we will be at the YWAM base for around 2 weeks. We won't be there the whole time but thats our main place where we will be. During the 2 weeks we are going to have lectures from one of the staff there and in between we will be travelling to different camp sites as well. Then after the 2 weeks we will be going on a canoeing trip. Which I for one am very nervous about. We will be canoeing from 3-5 hours to a place with no running water. Which means no showers or toilets so I am prepared to be stretched. We got our list of what to take and we had to buy some Mozzi Domes which are basically a one person tent around 6"4 long and around 3 feet wide. It doesn't have a covering so its basically like a mosquito net tent. We were told that we can only bring a hiking backpack and another smaller one for the canoeing trip. We will have 2 people per canoe and we will have one waterproof barrel for canoe where our small backpacks and kitchen stuff will go. So I packed tonight and have almost mastered the art of packing less. It was a struggle but I have learned the importance of sacrificing the extra clothing and other necessities. haha. So that has been my week so far. I am very excited for these next couple of weeks even though it is something I am not used to or in particular really enjoy (especially the no running water part). But I am excited for this new experience....prayer would be great! I have had such a blast this week and our team is really starting to bond and we are getting more comfortable with eachother. These past lectures have been truly amazing as our teacher has used her stories and her friends stories to inspire and teach us which has been so incredible. Tomorrow is our last lecture on Intercession and Hearing the Voice of God then we will hit the road on our van for our 3 hour drive to Byron Bay. Thanks once again for your continued prayer support, I will hopefully get to update you even though we are on the road these next couple of weeks.

Daneille i am so excited for you. It makes me realize how far away and different Australia really is when you were at the beach tanning (or burning) and i just had to scrape all the frost off my car and in the process almost freeze my fingers off!! =) Sounds pretty amazing way over there. And its sweet that you are learning so much from everybody! Thanks for the updates! Take care!! <3
